Privacy Policy
OnlyText · Effective October 17, 2026
This policy covers the OnlyText app for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, made by Studiojin (Jeongjin Kim). The studiojin.dev website is separate: it uses its own analytics and cookies, which you can review under Cookie settings at the bottom of this page.
OnlyText does not collect personal data. The developer does not receive or store your books, reading history or device information, and the app contains no advertising, analytics or tracking.
Stored on your device
Imported books, display settings, custom fonts, book info (ratings, reviews, tags and collections), the WebDAV servers you add, translations and glossaries stay in the app’s storage on your device and are removed when you delete the app. Reading positions and bookmarks are stored on your device too, and with iCloud sync on they are also kept in your iCloud account as described below. Device backups follow Apple’s backup policies.
iCloud sync
iCloud sync is on by default and can be turned off in Settings › iCloud Sync. When it is on, your reading positions, reading progress and bookmarks (including the text of passages you save), together with an identifier calculated from each book file’s contents so the same book can be recognized on your other devices, are stored in your own iCloud account using Apple’s CloudKit private database. Book files and settings are not uploaded, and books in the Secret Folder are not synced. This data is protected by your Apple Account and the developer cannot access it; saved passage text and notes are kept in CloudKit encrypted fields. Turning sync off stops syncing. To delete data already in iCloud, open Settings › [your name] › iCloud › Manage Account Storage on your device and delete OnlyText’s data.
WebDAV import
When you add a WebDAV server, its address and user name are stored on your device, and the password is kept in your device’s keychain. They are sent only to the server you entered, to browse it and download the books you choose. The developer never receives them.
Read Aloud
Read Aloud uses voices on your device. The speech is generated on your device, and your book’s text is not sent to the developer.
Translation
Translation is an experimental option in Settings › Labs and is off by default. It uses Apple’s Translation framework and Apple Intelligence. A language may be downloaded from Apple the first time you use it. Processing follows Apple’s privacy policy; the developer never receives the text or the results.
Apple Watch
Your bookmark list (book titles, bookmark positions, and the start of each bookmarked page or saved passage) is sent to your paired Apple Watch through Apple’s WatchConnectivity, and nowhere else.
Purchases
The free trial and purchase are handled by Apple’s App Store. The developer does not receive payment information.
Sale periods
To know when a special price or sale is running, the app reads a small public file, https://studiojin.dev/onlytext/promo.json, with a plain request. The request carries no identifiers, account information or cookies, and nothing about your books or reading. The developer does not use it to identify you.
